چکیده

Aortic root abscess is a well-known complication of aortic valve endocarditis. This report describes the two-dimensional echocardiographic findings in a patient with aortic valve endocarditis whose course was complicated by a posterior aortic root abscess which ruptured into the left atrium creating an aortico-left atrial fistula, which, to our knowledge, has not been previously reported. These findings were confirmed at surgery.

Aortico-Left Atrial Fistula: A Rare Complication of Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve Endocarditis Secondary to Enterococcus faecalis

Paravalvular aortic root abscess with intracardiac fistula formation is an exceedingly rare complication of infective endocarditis. This condition is even more rarely encountered in patients with bioprosthetic valve endocarditis. We report an unusual case of a 68-year-old Bosnian female with a bioprosthetic aortic valve, who developed an extensive aortic root abscess, complicated by an aortico-...

[Fistula between aorta and left atrium due to bacterial endocarditis in a patient with biological aortic valve - a case report].

Bacterial endocarditis of the aortic valve may lead to aortic regurgitation, or the aortic wall may become affected with perforation into the right atrium, right ventricle, or left ventricle. Perforation from the aorta into the left atrium forming an aorto-left atrial fistula is rare, and diagnosis is difficult because it closely mimics the features of mitral incompetence (Kay et al., 1959). Th...

A rare case of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated with multiple fistula to peri aortic structure

Multiple aorto-cardiac cavity communications is very rare but important complication of prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis. The case below illustrates multiple aorto-cardiac cavity fistula formation following prostethic aortic valve endocarditis presented with slowly progressive symptoms of heart failure. A brief review of surgical reconstruction and the existing literature are presented, i...

Subaortic-Right Atrial Fistula after Endocarditis in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

UNLABELLED Infective endocarditis in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy is rare. Management of this disease is challenging due to the unique features of dynamic pressure gradient over the left ventricular outflow tract and its unpredictable interaction with the management of sepsis. The added complexity of infective endocarditis further complicates an already difficult situation. A 72-year...

Diastolic Aorto–Right-Atrial Fistulation in Aortic and Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis

Background Aorto-right-atrial fistula in native valve endocarditis is very rare. Case Description A 45-year-old woman was referred with an endocarditis with a perforated right cusp of the aortic valve with at least moderate insufficiency and an affected tricuspid annulus with vegetations. In addition to this, an aorto-cavitary fistula from the aortic sinus to the right atrium with a holodiastol...
